Abstract II

Rai got 1370 in his GRE. He managed to give us a treat at Khandani Fine Dine, Nirmal Lifestyles. While we waited to be served, I used my camera to do some arbit things. Here's what I took of a glass from the top. Doesn't look like a glass does it?

Here's a pic I took some time ago. This is the top view of my bottle. Well it was half full (or half empty?) when I took this shot.

I'll Be Back!

Have not been posting pics very regularly on this blog. The major reason being that I am not getting any time because of my acads and the rains. And to top it all, I enter the exam week from the coming Monday. So, till I get to shoot what I want to, Tchao!

Path Untaken

A path behind Hostel 4, the place I presently reside in. Not a very often taken path, though it looks pretty evened out. Liked the greenery around the way right now, coz of the excessive rains. I was unable to decide the better of the two, the one from shoulder height (1st one), or the ground level one (2nd shot). What do you all say?

Morning Dew

Mumbaikars has been on the recieving end, when it comes to rains. Just a bit too much of rains than the city can bear. Have been kept idle coz of the heavy flooding of many parts of the city. This is what I took in the morning, when the rain had ceased for just about enough time for me to do some photography.

He, Me and God

The last pic of the hill-top sunrise series :) This was Gaurav's idea. He, Me and the Sun between us :P I guess it came out pretty good.

The Sunrise @ 6.25 AM

The scene that we went to watch on the hill top. The sun came out at about 6.25AM, and within a gap of 10 minutes dissappeared again in the clouds above to not be seen for a long time. We scraped through the pics just in the right time, to make it a day!

What next?

That's Gaurav and me. We sat there waiting for the sun to show up. And I thought of trying out my luck with the timer option of the camera :)

When shall she come?

Went to the Sameer hill top, a small hillock behind the IIT-B campus. Gaurav (the model) and I tried our hands at early morning photography. This is before the sun came out. There was enough light to take shots, but not what we went for: The sun-rise. We did manage some of the sun though. But, that's another post :)

Here Gaurav poses for me, in a predefined pose of his. He was actually scanning the landscape looking for something interesting to shoot.

Interested?

Two women walking past me while we stop for tea. Like Zishaan once pointed out, in India, if you move around with a big camera, depending on your skin color, you are considered a tourist (for the whites) and a news reporter (for the Indians). So, no one ever questions your take. :)

Camel Trail

Took this shot from inside the car. I thought I'll make the driver stop, but then realised I had done that quite often already in the road, and that had already gotten us more than 2 hours behind schedule.

Grass

A village woman picks up wild grass, to be used in the house as food for the cows/ other livestock.

A paan-beedi/cigarette shop on the highway. Took this while my driver went to ask for directions.

A panchayat at a village on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. I was in Delhi, and on the roads of North India during my last trip there. I shall be posting quite a few shots from the road trip.

Message on Mobile

This is the message that was flashing on my mobile on the 29th of July. It reads : I appeal, not to bel(ieve) Rumour about cycl(one). The part in the brackets is what I interpreted, with able assistance from NG.

Sorry for such an incomplete writeup about the shots. This message was flashing when there was a widespread rumour about a cyclone going to hit Mumbai in a few hours time. Most people who had been affected by the heavy rains were fleeing the city, by any mode possible. This message was to calm the crowd, to avoid a major problem.

Because GN has asked me for the 2nd time, I guess I'll have to elaborate on the message. After unexpectedly heavy rains in Mumbai (Mumbai gets very heavy rains every year, but this year, on the 26th of July, we had truckloads of water pouring on us), there were widespread rumors of cyclones and what-not hitting Mumbai. This message, and loads of SMS-es were sent out by mobile service providers to stop people from taking useless tension, that could cause stampedes in the railway stations, and similar points. NG and I noticed this when we were waiting for my flight, that was more than 7 hours late that day. The reason for that was the submerging of 2 of 3 runways of the Mumbai Airport, and all the International traffic had to depart from the domestic runway, causing a huge traffic lineup on the runway.

Hope this clears the message I wanted to potray with the mobile shots!?!

Traffic...

....Police!
Yeah... I get it. It's a sick joke.But that's all u get from me after 4 hours of lectures, and a 3 hour of lab to follow :( Here and here are two more shots of the same chap.

Story behind why I took this shot: I was walking along the road, when I see this chap controlling the traffic. I took 2 shots (here and here) when he noticed me taking his shots. He walks up to me, and I get nervous. Then the 1st thing I hear is not what are u doing, but Did my snaps come out good? :O:O So, I say sweetly, not that gr8, but u can surely pose for one more ;) And this is what I took!

After School 3

Wait.... and your time shall come. Guess that's what his mom's trying to teach him... as he waits at the school gate to be picked up. This is the last of the 'after school' series.

One... two... three.. four.. and the count goes on! Saw this kid walking on his own.. in his own rhythm!

News: I am in Delhi as of now... will post the next shot after I get back to college, on Tuesday that is.

Saw this really awesome set of kids, getting to go home after school. Really happy-to-go kids! Thought, its worth taking a shot of the time when u don't care much of this world!

Watchman

Have two questions for this shot:
1: Why is the watchman sitting inside?
2. Why is he yawning in the middle of the day? :O

Something more to eat?

Where-ever you go, what-ever you do, you need to have a plate of chaat sometime or the other :). And one finds a chaat vendor, some-where round the corner. :P

The future of Pole Vault?!?

This post isn't for mockery of the Indian status at the track and field events. Its just that I couldn't find a better name for this shot, and then, the World Championships are already on... so i thought Why Not?!?!

Cleaning starts...

The City got back to its feet a long time ago. But I still don't have my camera :D This is with the help of a friend's camera. Professional drain cleaners... at their job.

The Tiff-Off

The After-math of the rain-water in the mess. The lounge and the Table Tennis area (they are adjoining the mess, the mess is behind the wall on the left) also received their share of water. The wooden flooring of the table-tennis area being completely destroyed. Here we can see Shrini and Jeet trying to check what can be done with the flooring (and where can we get a better shot :D). BTW, this shot triggered me to take the shot above.

Caught in the Act!

Here's another shot of the eventful day :) I simply love the way the foot breaks through the barrier of water :) Here and Here are a few more shots of the mess.

We actually had to put a plank near the mess gate, to contain the water from flooding the mess from the overflowing corridor!

Dinner Time

Well, I managed to locate some pics that I took around the hostel 7, on the eventful day, the 26th of last month.
I shall be posting a few shots from here, to show what happened to our mess, and our mess workers for that matter :). Hostel 7 , being next to the Powai lake, and at an elevation, didn't submerge into water, but we sure had our own part of fun, with water reaching our ankles during dinner time.
Here we see a mess worker, eating dinner, no later than 8.30 in the night. He sure has no worries of the water gushing into the kitchen, from the rear gate!

Ganpatis at Bus-stop

Ganpati - The God to whom the Hindus pray to, before embarking on any kind of work. The Ganpati festival is not more than a few weeks off. Saw these progression of Ganpati idols, waiting to be painted at a bus-stop. But then, this was before the rains hit. Have no idea as to whether they have remained, or have been washed away. Here is another shot.

Orange and White

Still with no camera, I am left with no option but to post some shots from my archives. I saw this flower threader at Juhu, Mumbai. What I found interesting is that she's clean, her flowers shall be used in the temple and look where she sits!

A long time away

Well, to say the least, I was off net/blogging/messenger for just about a week. Extreme Bad Weather lashed Mumbai, and the internet, phone lines, mobile networks, all went down. All this, and I was to go to Delhi to see my parents over the weekend. I sure did make it there, but the weather was so bad, that I couldn't get a flight back yesterday. So, after loads of flight cancellations, and shifting of air carriers, Indian Airlines made it to the Bombay Airport, not more than a couple of hours ago. And that is after it kept on hovering around Mumbai city, waiting for the the visibility to rise above 800m, the minimum for a flight to land/take-off.
So, here I sit, infront of my computer, trying to go through all the pics that I missed. But there is bad news. I was forced by my dad to leave my electronics, and other stuff of value, so that they didn't go bad in the neck-deep water clogged roads. So had to leave my camera, and lots of other things at home. Actually, I made it here almost with nothing but cash on me.
So, even though I have got a good load of shots from my trip to Delhi, and of the Rajasthan roads, I am unable to post them at the moment. I am trying to convince my dad to send me the memory card by courier, let's see what happens.

Coming to the picture, here's one from the archives. I took this before I left for Delhi. I guess, its just the line of the auto-rickshaws, and the lone man walking that caught my eye.

I missed this!

Hey all! I'm back!
And to start off the blogging in India, I decided to pick something that I desperately missed when in Australia. A delicacy that has its own variations across India, Chaat. It is hot, sweet, spicy, sour, and what not, all at the same time. Here's one such vender with a customer, who sure seems satisfied!

News: I start my classes tomorrow. Don't know how it will be going back to classes after a year long break. Let's see how it turns out. Other than that, I have figured out the problem with my computer. Other than the power-supply missing, and no lan-cord, it seems to be in-order. So, I shall be able to put it up in no time :)
